at 4.30 in the morning....
A starling coming down the chimney into my bedroom and flapping around in a panic striken manner which was very nearly as panic stricken as the manner in which I was responding to this mini crisis.
What with the bird, me, and one of my cats all going mental I can't recommmend it as the most relaxing start to a day.

An unforseen benefit we have in new housing (with no fireplaces) - quiet mornings.
Well, we do have a fireplace in the family room, but there is a damper in the chimney that closes to prevent things like that from happening. Not there, or is the house too old for one of those?
Starling down the chimney! In Yorkshire folklore this signifies a forthcoming wedding or bonding between a man and a woman... Birds always bear signs if we only try to read them.
What with my fear of tiny birds (no, it's NOT ridiculous, I swear!!) while indoors, I would have died of a heart attack.
*Mental Note: Do not move into house with fireplace.
I had to open the chimney up to let it out JOe - I could hear it flapping away and I hadn't the heart to let it stay there till it died of exhaustion.
YP - I think Reidski would counter with auld Scottish folklore that says it doesn't!
Babs, Reidski hates birds too. He was never so happy not to have been sleeping with me when I told him about it.
