Again?

I know nothing about police policies and procedures, but even if it was perfectly in order to give the man who killed Jean Charles De Menezes his gun back, what kind of person would want the opportunity to fire a lethal weapon again after what he had already done? Wouldn't an average kind of person with human feelings go away and have a nervous breakdown instead? In fact, I reckon that the very fact that this man was prepared to go back to armed duty again proves that he must have been psychologically unsuitable to do so.

And it may have passed everyone's notice but did you know that the bloke who the police shot in Forest Gate didn't have any child porn on his computer after all? Another fine black-ops job from the coppers there!!

I had exactly that thought JJ, I've been nervous about getting in my car again after an inconsequential bumper scratching shunt at a juction so I don't understand how someone who has killed someone in those circumstances could pick up a gun again, or could have been judged psychologocally fit to do so even if they were aparently legally clear to act as if nothing had happened. It's actually quite frightening because you hope that these folks are the best trained etc available but this guy just thinks he's f---g Rambo - excuse the language, I know this is a respectable blog

just want to point out that the guy shot in new romney was a blagger and so does kinda have to take being shot by the old bill as part of the job!

also id rather have armed filth making the odd mistake than coppers with kid gloves letting murderers/terrorists get away with it....

cookie, you've done it again! There are no murderes or terrorists involved - either in Romney or Forest Gate! So what you're saying is that it's good that innocent people get shot? And I'm not talking about the bloke in Romney!
What if your brother was on the Tube and got shot in the head seven times? Would you support that?
You obviously place no value whatsoever on innocent human lives!

the bloke in new romney was a blagger and theyve been shot at since the mid 70's........

also we cant have an armed police unit thats too afraid to shoot. can you imagine the furore if they didnt shoot a guy who then got away and proceeded to carry out an act of mass murder just like 7/7? i bet youdve liked the old bill to have shot then!

and you asked about if it had been my brother shot. well ive got family that are involved in crime and whilst id be upset that an uncle or cousin had been shot dead idve takne it on the chin seeing as they chose to live a life of crime and they have to live with the bad as well the benefits of it.

on the other side i can concede that the shooting of jean charles de menezes was a tragic accident but thats all it was, an accident. the police then acted in the best public intrest. (ive just defended the old bill, i need a bath!)

This isn't a perfect world and allowing a trigger happy killer policeman back on the streets in his original role proves that point with absolute certainty.

Armed police are supposed to shoot people aren't they? That is why they get given guns. If we are squeamish about it then maybe we shouldn't have armed police at all??

It's his job.

I am not saying no police officer should be armed but I do have serious concerns about this particular officer being armed.I really really need to believe that any police officer issued with a fire arm has had extensive psychological screening first. Surely this particular man would have been so traumatised by being involved in killing an innocent person that he would NOT be a suitable person to hold a fire arm again?

What about the forces duty of care towards him? Having now killed again scarcely a year after de Menezes is he in such a state he will never be able to work again or is he inclined to the 'Oops, I did it again' way of dealing with it. How ever he is feeling I just don't believe the force should have placed him in the position where he could end up killing again. It was his job Backroads, but in my opinion it should not have been his job.

To quite the godlike genius of Michael Franti "But dehumanizing the victim makes things simpler
It's like breathing with a respirator
It eases the conscience of even the most conscious
and calculating violator
Words can reduce a person to an object,
something more easy to hate
An inanimate entity, completely disposable,
no problem to obliterate"

Of course this time the reverse is the case. The armed cop has obviously been dehumanised." If that's what you want running around the streets "protecting" you, welcome to Robocop folks!
