Or at least it is between the months of August through to May. The rest of the time I may feel able to write about something other than a not especially successful football team.

I never met a Scot who didn't have a huge racist chip on his shoulder about England and the English and I think I can say that with some validity having lived in Scotland for five years in the seventies. They should be grateful! We brought them trousers and malt vinegar, electricity and Morecambe and Wise and we have employed lots of their footballers over the years so that they could send food packages back to their wee bairns in The Gorbals. They always want England to lose because underneath it all they are jealous of the English nation. COME ON ENGLAND!
Sorry, but I never understand why the English think they have a God given right to be supported by another nation just because it happens to be next door. Do you expect a Liverpool fan to support Everton? No. Do you expect a Man Utd fan to support City? No. Do you expect a Cobblers fan to support Peterborough? No. Do you expect a fan of the might all-conquering Spurs to support that bunch of French twats from down the road? No. More to the point, would you expect the Belgians to support Holland, or the Portuguese to support Spain? No. Yet you seem to believe that we Scots are being mean spirited because we fail to support a country which has repeatedly invaded us for a millenium or more simply because we happen to share a border. Methinks it is not us who have the inferiority complex.
'mon the Soca Warriors!
you're at 50/50. go with what i said. i said yes. i know everything. ask my husband.
So why doesn't the (Eurovision song contest) neighbour principle apply in football? Explain that to me, someone, please.
Excellent - a little light-hearted fun from JJ gets everyone into a tizzy! Silly people!
For what it's worth, while I am a guest in this beautiful country and think the English people to be warm, kind and wonderful, I choose, for entertainment reasons, not to support their football team. On the other hand, I can't stand those self-hating English people - usually middle class and usually Guardian, Morning Star and Socialist Worker readers, in my experience - who snobbishly don't support their country when it comes to football. But maybe that is a debate I should host on my own blog rather than here on JJ's! At the same time I may have a few words to say on the reactionary and crass anti-English feelings which do exist in Scotland.
Alan - well said. COYS
Oh and JJ, yes obv!
Well said Cliff - let's forget all the nonsense and just enjoy! It is, after all, just a game!
I'm going to support australia.
...cos I can!
I think YP is pretty well wrong, either that or he's met the wrong Scots. The chip isn't racist at all. Its simply a prebyterian modesty that wouldn't allow us to blow the same trumpet for 40 years. As for jealousy what's to be jealous of in Nationalism?
