The world has gone completely mad.

I rest my case......

I propose that - to commemorate Jade Goody, her inspirational life and her brave battle with cancer - we rename Mothers Day to "Jade Goody Remembrance day" so that she will never be forgotten, and so that she may serve as an inspiration to future generations in the fight against cancer.
My daughter recently discovered she had breast cancer because of Jade Goody. I know she must be looking down upon us now. and to her I say thank you, Jade, from the depths of my heart.

I swear I did not make this up.

I agree with your comment wholeheartedly (presuming that you are in fact Jane from Northants!). Sad that she's died, good that she is no longer in pain, sad for the boys and rest of her family but she is not special or unique in any way. Yes she was brave but so are the other cancer sufferers.

Word ver of chokel seems appropriate.

I think I need to throw up...

A young woman dies. It is sad. She may have helped bring to attention the need for screening and for young women to get checked out. That is worthwhile.

But this level of coverage? (and the Guardian having its cake and eating it by commenting on how she has finally left the limelight - complete with large front page picture and piece? PUR-LEASE)

Strangely enough Karen - that is a total coincidence and isn't me at all - but I agree with my name sake too. And with you.

Lisa - pass the sick bucket once you have finished with it! Absolutely insane.

I feel like 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells'. How has it come to this? I blame Thatcher!

Good heavens...

Well, I guess it proves one thing. We never know where people will get inspiration from, so perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the ramblings of 'celebrities', the media's addiction to jumping on bandwagons and catering to the LCD, or the public's love of train-wrecks.

I didn't like Jade Goody. I don't like media circuses, and I don't like the current craze for celebrity for celebrity's sake (I happen to think people should have some vestige of talent to deserve it). But I did feel desperately sorry for her, as I would for any young woman in her situation, and I'm glad she is now at peace.

But rename Mothers' Day? Someone has lost their marbles.

Indeed Trousers - what on earth can one say in the face of such mind blowing insanity?

Moo - absolutely speechless!

Steve - we live in strange times alongside very seriously disturbed people. I blame Thatcher too - I blame her for everything else so see no reason to make an exception in this case.

Jay - somehow I doubt that many of us mums would feel quite the same were we in future to be wished 'Happy Jade Goody Remembrance Day.'

Surely a "Silicone-Enhanced Tits Racist Meeja Hoor Day" would be more appropriate?

Wear a Kevin Bacon nose, joke shop plastic boobs, goose step around your living room, then sell the photos to Look At Me! magazine.

Saint Jade of The Greenbacks, RIP

"Silicone-Enhanced Tits Racist Meeja Hoor Day"

Nice one Kev - that certainly has a certain ring to it!

Of course when Thatcher finally goes we shall be faced with the campaign for a Margaret Thatcher Day. I wonder if Stephen Fry will be brought in to compare her with Princess Di as he did with Goody. (Please someone tell me Fry was trying to be ironic?)

What on earth was a supposedly inteeligent man like Stephen Fry doing comparing her to Diana? Not that I'm a royalist mind! Or think that Diana was anyone special. Or was he just taking the piss, which went 'whoosh!' over my head?
