It's not their fault but these people are our rarely acknowledged underclass. They are like rabbits trapped in a headlight beam. They have computers and Sky TV, dogs and baseball caps but their social and cultural deprivation is so vivid it is as if we are looking at beings from another planet. Poor little Shannon. What a horror show to be born into.
And it makes a mug out of those moaning that the case never got the same media exposure as the middle class Madeline one. Maybe that's because the police (& thus the press, who would have been tipped off, but told to black out the news) knew this wasn't straightforward all along. The only thing that surprises me is that it didn't occur in the underclass heartland of the Medway, in the cesspool of England, somewhere like Chatham or Gillingham...
Still cynical old me says that at least Shannon will be alright in a few years time when she writes a book or two about her terrible ordeal, & cruel upbringing...Dave Peltzer eat your heart out! ;-)
