I now have something in common

with Lisa, and I am not just talking huge intellect, great taste and good looks here ( ;-) ). No, I refer to a lack of a home computer.

I came down the stairs first thing this morning to an unusual sight: My daughter moving at speed. She ran through to the kitchen from the living room and back again carrying a cloth which gave me a clue that there had been a spill of some description, although at that point I was n't aware just exactly how pricey a spill this particular spill would turn out to be.

Orange juice all over the laptop.

And surprise, surprise - orange juice + laptop = knackered laptop.

Strange but in spite of the times beyond number that I have told my kids off for eating and drinking whilst using the laptop I couldn't bring myself to be cross with her as she was so distraught. Anyway, I didn't need to get cross as both my sons were livid enough with her to provide more than sufficient anger to make up for the lack of it coming from my direction.

Initial enquiries suggest the chances of an economically viable repair are nil and so I will be well out of pocket due to the excess on my contents insurance having shot up so much due to my series of fairly recent unfortunate events (handbag stolen, car broken in to, cooker hob broken, fire in kitchen).

So basically - bugger it. I shall be getting a new laptop this weekend.

Oh dear - sincere commiserations to you - and your poor daughter! I know what you mean about the insurance. You wonder sometimes if it's worth having as they sting you every time you claim.

Well, if it's completely shot, you'd have nothing to lose by flushing it with water and turning it upside down to drain...

Unplug and take the battery out first, huh?

LOL!

I can almost hear your response to your darling daughter's orange juice accident...
"There! There! Darling! Don't worry your little head! There are more important things in this world than silly old laptops. Now what would you like for breakfast?"

I now have flashy laptop courtesy of new housemate Phil. I still intend to have my own computer at some point as I can't rely on living with him forever. In the process of saving up for one!

Am baffled by your need to add a wink to the remark of "huge intellect, great taste and good looks". Since I have none of them in the first place, I'm unsure what you could mean!

;)

Hope you get sorted soon. I must admit it is a relief to be (sortof) back in action.

Deepest sympathy! I'd be totally lost without my laptop now, & if anything went wrong certainly couldn't afford a replacement! It would be back to the internet cafes!
I always take great care around my laptop, which is why I try not to look at the gay porn sites in bed! ;-)

sounds like the time I ended up puring a pint of cider over my keyboard.... it didn't work either afterwards!!!

Oooh, sticky! I trust that the lack of anything since then doesn't mean that you are internetless? Wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Have you bought a new laptop yet? Commiserations, but I hope the new one - as and when you get it - does the job nicely.

I can imagine you'd have been more angry with your daughter if she's broke a cup or a plate or something, she sounds like she was devastated.

Oh no! If I had read this last week I should have emailed you sooner than yesterday. But because I am so disorganised you probably have plans this weekend - I am in Market Harborough for the weekend, practically down the road!!

Anyway, its probably too late to make plans to meet up but I will definitely be back up soon! Was out in Nottingham last night, was such fun!

See you soon and I hope everything is ok xxx

God, that's awful.

There but for the grace of anti-spill lids go all of us.

Thank you all for your kind commiserations. My new Dell computer has been ordered.

It was to say the least unfortunate that the TV went irrepairably wrong the very next day....what next?

I dread to think.
