I have made the ultimate sacrifice to save my team

And believe me - I have only done this for them.

NOT that they deserve it. We lost again last night, when one measly little point would have secured our League 1 place for another season. Oh no though - why would they want to put their pathetic little supporters out of their misery before Saturday? We are now faced with a trip to Leeds - who have already sold 40,000 tickets to their own supporters - and we have no chance of getting anything from that whatsoever. Our only hopes prior to my own personal sacrifice were that either Stockport beat Brighton at Brighton (which they won't)or that Millwall get a point up at Carlisle (which contrary to what a very close acquaintance of mine says - they won't either).

It is clearly too late for half measures, and the time comes when a fan has to put herself on the line and do what ever it takes to positively ensure that the worst (relegation) does not happen.

And that is why earlier today I placed a FIFTEEN POUND bet that the Cobblers will in fact be relegated.

If that doesn't work nothing else will.

Editors note: 10 - 1 people! Believe me its the best odds for a cast iron certainty you will ever get.

That reverse psychology shit ain't washing with me darling. You know that the Lions will beat the northerners and you will stay up. If you don't, I'll eat my pants!

Reidski I think you might be safe... on the Carlisle front anyway. The outlook is not so good for the Cobblers though.

JJ I bet the odds on Carlisle going down are rubbish as I think that IS a certainty!

Word veri: Filonall - what fans of football teams recently relegated take to calm them down.

I don't think £15 quid is enough to appease the Gods. Avoiding relegation must demand at least the blood of a first born.

Nevertheless fingers will be metaphorically crossed for you this weekend.Although as you saw last week I'm a big believer in what I like to call the antikiss-of-death.

As my lot have a meaningless 90 minute kickabout with Doncaster, having startled us all by winning the Championship with a fortnight to spare, I'm happy to hop on the Cobblers' bandwagon for a weekend, especially as it involves hating Leeds just that little bit more.

Oh dear...I have the same sinking feeling Griselda but isn't it quite absurd that one's moods can sometimes parallel the ups and downs of one's team? Logic says that but the heart speaks differently.

Reidski - make sure you have lots of nicely laundered fresh pants to hand this weekend......

Karen - I am sure you will stay up at our expense. Maybe with a 94th minute header from your goal keeper once again?

Martin - biggest bet I have ever placed in my life and STILL it ain't enough :-(
Thanks for those metaphorically crossed fingers - we grasp at any straws!

Hello Malc and thanks both for stopping by and the supportive words. Believe me - there is no shortage of space on this particular band wagon.
Wolves have had a brilliant season - you must be relaly chuffed. Now you've got to do a Stoke and stay there.

YP - I am absolutely dreading tomorrow. I don't know how I am going to manage the tension. And yet - how ridiculous do I sound? It's only bloody football after all - and after tomorrow I probably won't even like football anymore.

JJ if we still had Westwood that might be a possibility...

Trying not to think about it Karen - but failing :-(

Hope you're enjoying your pants Reidski!

So sorry JJ. I have no idea how we managed to beat Millwall; I know even less how I couldn't hear the roar from the crowd when we scored as my house is within earshot of Brunton Park (I heard Elton John for free). At least you can spend your winnings on some booze and something fancy to cheer yourself up a bit x

wonder how I'll get out of that one! Err, can't, the pants are in the microwave with a lovely bolognese sauce. the chianti will wash it down really nicely ....

Fucking Millwall c***s!

I told you £15 wasn't enough.

What's for pudding Reidski?

Do they have Dessert Trollies in Glasgow?

Karen - we deserved to go down following the most dreadful form sincne Christmas. Still feels shite though.

TNR - would like to be able to tell you the winnings helps take away the pain - not yet it hasn't - although granted I don't actually have the cash yet.

Reidski - Last time let you cook my tea.

Kev - thank you. *Sob*.

Funnily enough Martin - I am rather wishing I had gone with more than £15 now. After all - I really DID know we were fucked and that those odds were ridiculously generous.
