I just have to say

Please read 'One Day' by David Nicholls, if you haven't already, and then tell me what you thought of it.

I had been unable to put it down, loved it from the first chapter and loved and recognised the two characters-Emma and Dexter (Em and Dex). I was laughing out loud at it.But then yesterday morning my sobbing woke Reidski up. Not just a silent tear but quite uncontrollable grief.

It's wonderful - but just one shocking and totally unexpected sentence is going to stay with me for a long long time.

JJ I read it a couple of weeks ago on holiday in Skiathos with Dearest. One afternoon Dearest was in a hurry to cross a road to catch a bus (a friggin' BUS!) and didn't look the right way. She ran straight in front of two very young people speeding on one of them 4 wheel motorbike things they have on the Greek Islands.

I thought she was going to die. A strangled noise came out of me from somewhere and luckily she survived. It could've been so different. It was a horrible, horrible experience, a horrible vision. It shook me up.

On top of that it was the anniversary of Dad's death so I was a bit more freaked out because of that.

Anyway, we got back to our apartments and Dearest went for a lie down while I sauntered to the bar and supped a beer whilst getting near the end of "One Day".

I got to 'that bit' and I had to leave my beer and go back to our apartment with girly tears streaming......

Thank you Steve. I really needed to know it wasn't just me. But your experience that day and it being the anniversary must have made it even more powerful. Two days later and I still can't get it out of my head.

JJ and Steve - you both remind me of Lisa from Celebrity Master Chef. I would say Lisa from whatever it is she hails her celebness from, but I only know her from this cookery thing
